We had a team building day, yesterday in Amecet. That is always a puzzle, because we can never close the place for something like that... we have the children in the house and we always have to care for them.. So we organized it at 12 o'clock noon till 3 pm. We fed the toddlers a bit early, so they went in bed for their after lunch nap at 12 and we started our programme.
At the moment we have a volunteer from the Netherlands, Evelyne Oprel, who was willing to be our facilitator for the day, so that was a blessing for us. She is with us for 3 months and she has such a love for the children, she was very willing to help us with the activities for the teambuilding.
We had different activities, one of them was the circle of praise; one by one the staff stood in the middle of the circle and people encouraged their colleague with words of praise. It was very powerful and some of the staff were really touched and emotional. If you work together, every day, you are tending to see the mistakes from each other instead of the good things from the other person, it is important to focus on the positive sides of each other..
We also did a fun activity, trying to go through the Hola-hoop, working together, with a lot of laughter.
Another activity was done in little groups, we tried to imagine to be one of the little children and trying to think what that child would like to feel loved and cared for, what that child would need to develop better and what the child would feel scared of. We shared that in the big group, it was good to think more with the mind of the children. The babies were fed during those activities, because we had feeding times at 1 and 2 pm.
We had not enough time to do all what we had planned, the toddlers needed to come out of bed to eat their afternoon snack. We will for sure do more of these activities. We all had fun, and it was so good to think of more ways to encourage each other and to affirm one another. We ended with signing our name on the whiteboard, to affirm that we are committed to serve God , the children and each other in Amecet.
